For the abstract artist, marks are a language, a way to express ideas as art.
In this exhibition, father and daughter, Gary Gregg and Daniela Minns have expressed their respective ideas through new paintings.
In addition, the artists have produced a series of experimental works on paper by means of conversations in mark making.
Each artist commenced with sets of papers of various sizes and made a mark on each page. The pages were exchanged and each artist responded with an additional mark. The pages travelled back and forth between the two artists’ studios, accumulating marks until it was agreed that a drawing was finished.
The title for the show 'Conversations in mark making' is apposite as it refers not only
to the process of the abstract drawing project but to the dialogue between father and daughter about art and painting that has been ongoing throughout their lives.
